Wind Profile - HDWA

Proposed Update to Harris and Deaves Wind Model

The improvement is based on use of a linear variation of friction velocity (u*) with log z.  A suggestion of Wieringa that u* and z0 can be assumed to vary with height has been adapted to provide an improved description of the variation of turbulence properties with height.  Author and copyright Andrew Allsop.

Non-integer Bessel-K - EXCEL VBA code

Bessel-K Non-Integer

In ESDU wind engineering coherence calculations Bessel-K (x, ν)  is needed with non-integer values of ν.  EXCEL natively has only integer Bessel-K (x, n) (and does not warn when non-integer values are rounded down!). The pdf provides suitable coding for those who know how to implement VBA functions.

NB Suitable functions are available in other mathematical libraries - no need to write your own for Python.

Wind Speed v. Return Period

A New(?) Wind Speed v. Return Period Relationship

This paper concerns the wind model which is most relevant to windspeeds in temperate latitudes driven by extra-tropical cyclones, but is also relevant to tropical-cyclones.
